5, 10 or 15 kV · from 0.01 MΩ to 50 TΩ · six rated levels plus steps
Insulation testing for transformers, motors, generators, cables and switchgear. Three models at 5, 10 and 15 kV, each with six rated voltage levels and a step adjustment function for the voltages in between.
Leakage from 0.01 nA · absorption ratio and polarization index calculated · 500 sets over USB · IP54, battery powered

MIT-4500 series · 240 × 188 × 85 mm, 2720 g
Fixed steps rarely match every specification. A step adjustment function sits on top of the six rated levels, so a voltage the fixed steps do not reach is still available.
Each model offers six rated test voltages, and a step adjustment function produces the levels in between, up to that model’s maximum. A 15 kV instrument will also generate 12 kV.
Insulation from 0.01 MΩ, DC to 1000 V, AC to 750 V, DC current from 0.01 nA and capacitance to 50 µF, all on the same terminals.
Absorption ratio and polarization index come off the display, worked out from the timed readings rather than a stopwatch and a calculator.
Held internally and reviewed on the instrument, then uploaded to the supplied software for saving, reporting and printing.
The test object is discharged automatically at the end of a test, an alarm is raised when a reading passes a set threshold, and the instrument shuts itself down.
IP54 against dust and moisture, running from an 11.1 V internal pack, so there is no mains connection to find on site.
Used on transformer windings, bushings and surge arresters, on motor and generator windings assessed by absorption ratio and polarization index, and on cables and lines where distributed capacitance is high.
The rated voltage sets overlap, but each model drops the lowest level as it gains the highest. The 15 kV instrument does not offer 100 V or 250 V, so the top model is not automatically the safe choice.
| Model | Rated test voltages | Insulation range | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIT-4505 | 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500 V, 5 kV | 0.01 MΩ to 10 TΩ | 464505 |

| MIT-4515 | 500, 1000, 2500 V, 5 kV, 10 kV, 15 kV | 0.01 MΩ to 50 TΩ | 484515 |
Test voltage is the rated value × (1 ±10%), and output short-circuit current is 6 mA or better on all three. Check the lowest voltage your specification calls for as well as the highest: the step adjustment function reaches intermediate levels, but not below a model’s lowest rated one.
Five measurements from one set of terminals, with resolution and accuracy the same across the three models.

Accuracies are quoted at 23 ±5 °C and below 75% relative humidity. Absorption ratio and polarization index are calculated from the timed readings rather than measured separately. Resolution, accuracy and output short-circuit current are the same across all three models.
These testers generate up to 15 kV. They are for use by trained personnel following the appropriate safe system of work, with the test object isolated and proved dead before connection. The voltage inputs are rated CAT III 300 V.
Compliance: IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-031, IEC 61557-1 and 61557-5, IEC 60529 to IP54, at pollution degree 2. Reference conditions 23 ±5 °C below 75% relative humidity.
