23 mm jaw · up to 400 A · auto-ranging
Two auto-ranging clamp meters built around a 23 mm jaw, small enough to get between conductors in a crowded panel where a full-size clamp will not fit. Current is read without breaking the circuit, and voltage, resistance, continuity and diode testing are on the leads.
CAT III 600 V · 2 × AAA cells · test leads and carrying case supplied
GPS-232 · AC and DC, 4000 counts
A digital multimeter will not carry 10 A for more than about thirty seconds without damage. A clamp reads the same current from outside the insulation, with nothing disconnected and nothing in series.
Small enough to get between conductors in a crowded board, where a full-size clamp will not fit.
AC on both models, AC and DC on the GPS-232, read without breaking the circuit.
Four AC ranges on the GPS-230 resolve to 1 mA, for tracing small loads and confirming a dead circuit.
The GPS-232 nulls the display before a DC reading, which matters at the bottom of the range.
The GPS-232 adds 100 µF and 150 kHz with duty cycle, for motor, control and HVAC faults.
Backlit display, data hold, low battery indication and auto power off on both models.
Same jaw, same case, same batteries. The question is whether you need DC current and the extra measurement functions.
| Model | Current | AC ranges | Best resolution | Counts | Extra key | Also measures |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPS-230 | AC | 2.000 / 20.00 / 200.0 / 400 A | 1 mA | 2000 | Max hold | — |
| GPS-232 | AC and DC | 40.00 / 400.0 A | 10 mA | 4000 | Zero for DC | Capacitance, frequency, duty cycle |
The GPS-230 resolves ten times finer on AC current, so it is the better choice for small loads. The GPS-232 trades that for DC measurement, a 4000-count display and the capacitance, frequency and duty cycle functions.
